Dixie Foundry Timeline
1916 - S.B. Rymer Sr. returns from Oklahoma to his home state of Tennessee, and establishes Dixie Foundry Co.
1920s - Dixie produces wood and coal-fired, and, later, gas-fired ranges.
1937 - Workers strike Dixie and 3 other local foundries, demanding increased minimum wages of 32 to 35 cents per hour.
1952 - Company begins producing electric ranges.
1958 - Dixie acquires Magic Chef of St. Louis, MO.
1960 - Name changed from Dixie Foundry to Magic Chef.
1964 - Rymer family gives up total controlling interest and issues IPO to raise capital for the company.
1980s - Company merged with other firms to form Maytag Cleveland Cooking Products.
