Anyone forget what's chilling in their lye bath?

I knew there was a waffle iron, perhaps two and a Favorite pan. Toodled down to the basement, reached into the blackness and... the Favorite pan (most recent to the lye bath). Then... half of a Stover waffle iron, then the other half and base. Another blind grope found a Harker waffle iron (no handles, no base but still cool) and finally... two small waffle iron pieces that had long broken off their hinge but carry a cool waffle pattern. BWHAHAHAH! Wowee! It's the best surprise!

Back into the lye bath the pieces went. (And egads that liquid is COLD!) After Christmas they will get their formal cleaning / vinegar bath & conditioning.

Have you forgotten about anything in your lye bath?

A Good Health #6 skillet, and I decline to say how long it's been in there on the grounds that it may tend to humiliate me.

That my friends is why we go fishing with a magnet. Tools of the trade.

Merry Christmas to all and may your stocking be filled with cast iron. I think I got it right coal / cast iron, okay cast iron.

I have pans that have been hanging in my lye tanks for months or more. I know what they are and where. They just got moved down the list as far as importance.

And yes to the magnet on a rope.

Chilling in the tank is right.
My lye tanks are slushy to frozen.
E-tanks are both frozen top to bottom.
And we wait for warmer weather...
