A Question About Photos On A Forum Post

How does one manage the attachment quota associated with uploading photos to a post from your computer?

e.g. is there a way delete a post or remove its photos once the post is "finished" (you got the answer to the question asked)?

Thanks

One approach is to link your photos from a free hosting service like imgur instead of uploading them directly to the forum. That has several advantages:

- You're not taking up Doug's storage space.
- You can add more photos per post (IIRC it's 3 max upload vs. 5 max linked)
- If, for some reason, you want to remove a pic, just remove it from your hosting site yourself instead of having to ask Doug to edit the post (which is the only way to remove them once the editing time window closes).

There's some more info on that here:

Bear in mind that threads with photos asking for ID help are of benefit to others besides just the OP. So, deleting photos, whether from this server or another, once you've gotten your answer makes a thread pretty much useless to those viewing it after. If you use a third party image hosting account to add photos to your posts, it is requested you consider making a special, permanent folder and link to them from there.

The photo posting sticky topics recommend imgur.com for third party image hosting mainly because you don't have to create an account, and if you upload photos without creating an account, the photos will remain on and accessible from imgur servers as long as they get at least one view every six months, IIRC.

One more thought. If you use photobucket for your image hosting, I would request you NOT use it here. I have never seen an image hosting site so rife with deceptive ads and malware pop-ups.

Doug and Eric, thank you for your help with my question.

I did not pick up that you could use Imgur without setting up an account (I was loath to create yet another one with all the fuss of an account name, password etc.).

Problem solved, much appreciated.

I don't have an active computer anymore, using company IPad and IPhone. I can't seem to get Imgur to work with IPad. So I'm having to use an app called photo shrinker. Hope I can figure it out at some point.

Downloading the app is no problem, just cant figure out the next step. Ding Dang technology love/hate it!!

I'm going to have to look into Imgur. I am currently using photobucket and I absolutely hate it; the ads are obnoxious and it takes for bloody ever to do anything on that site.
