Another waffle iron

I just picked up another waffle iron and need some info. It is a Griswold #8 Pat. July 11, 1922. I can't find it in the blue book. It does not use a base. It is in good shape but needs work. Not sure but I think someone painted it. One of these days I will get back to picking skillets.

I now have time for a Gridwold waffle iron. I picked this up for $13 which I thought was low but I know nothing about it. It only took me two days to clean.
I noticed that it does not use a base. The blue book only mentioned the heart shaped 1922. Any info would be helpful.

It uses a base. The paddle design does not use leveling pins, but instead relies on the squared shank of the handles. The design also allows for the same pattern to be used for both paddles in a set. The BB pg. 93 shows your p/n paddles, but in a stove ring base.

The chart here: http://www.castironcollector.com/waffle.php will tell you which pattern number bases your paddles fit.

It very much needs a base. The high base #88 comes in two patterns and there is also a low base. The 151 also came along side a 151N. Lots of information on the web as it was a good seller for over 30 years.

One last question. Did I get it at a good price-$13. I am going to keep it. I now have four waffle irons. I only started collecting last June. I am hooked on all cast iron. A great hobby for a 69 year old Vietnam vet.

Nothing I can see looks damaged or broken. $50-75 with a base would be a good deal, so, yeah, $13 for the main part is pretty good. May take a while to find the base you want.

John K - Thank you sir for your service and welcome home. As for the iron, great deal and if it makes you happy to own it, even better.

John if you are patient and watch ebay for "waffle base only" they come up for sale every now and then. You just have to know which numbers and shapes to watch for. I am still waiting on a couple I need.

Thanks Bonnie, I have been watching ebay. I do need help in determining which waffle base I need for my 1922 iron. Any help with number or description would be helpful.

Thanks Doug, I copied the chart to my CI folder for reference. I should have looked closer back when it was posted.
Thanks again!
