Any insight onto this piece?

I was gifted the pot below from a reenactment friend who is something of a scavenger. I’m not having much luck finding anything about it though. Until I went looking I was not familiar with pots that didn’t have legs and have just a rounded bottom like this one.

The text under the lid handle is just “4 gal” and I do not see any identifying marks elsewhere. I’m curious about it, especially with the pattern on the lid, and my “google-fu” is failing me. It will be used on a fire as soon as it is cleaned/reseasoned and my blacksmith friend makes an appropriate tripod and/or base to sit it on.

If you can give me some suggestions of what to try looking for or are familiar with it yourself, I’d love any info you care to share. Thanks in advance! 3AAF6A22-5EA5-465B-9ADA-91513A434F37.jpeg92D8F6A0-2EDE-446F-985B-35921A31BB7B.jpeg3A356C22-9E1A-42D7-B717-D4EBD5B77097.jpeg

I thought it was cool too. I almost felt bad accepting it except for the fact that he knows if I have it that I will feed him. So he may have had an ulterior motive in that regard.
