Are Heat Diffusers Practical

I was wondering today if some type of diffuser between a larger size skillet would help with more even heating and avoid warping at high heat for searing or stir fried foods. I have a nice piece of steel out in the garage I could make one out of.

If it would help in that concept, what would be a good design ballpark. Holes drilled in it? Some, many, size big, small 1/4” less?

Just thought I’d throw that out for discussion and see what the group thinks and if others used something similar and has knowledge.

Just for reference I’m using a gas stove, it may help with even browning of 4 piece of French toast on my round griddle :covri:

Thanks Doug for the reply.
I do that when searing steaks and should of mentioned that in my opening post. I was looking for others that may of use diffuses and if they had any practical use and worked better, less or the same as preheating. Possibly keeping even heat at low temperatures for a longer period?
