If a web search for the answer to your cast iron cookware question has brought you directly to this forum, the information you seek may be covered in one of the many reference topics featured on the main website.
Hi--this item was part of a recent group purchase, I believe it was referenced as a lamp hanger, but not sure if that is correct--any ideas? It is approximately 2.5" wide and 3.5" long to the point.
Thanks!
Appears to be wrought iron, not a casting. The handle definitely is. As the focus here is on cast iron cookware, I'm afraid we won't be of much help, unless someone here happens to have seen one before and knows what it is.
In the second pic it is shown upside down. This would be slipped over a shelf or thin fireplace mantel with the plate on top to hang a lamp or fireplace tool as shown underneath with an S type hook so it could be easily removed or moved.
Thank you all for your input!! The base piece is a dish with sides of about 1/4" high. It's hard to tell if it's cast or wrought. We will try hanging it the other way.
Alicia, you have it hanging the correct way in your pictures and the reference to a lamp hanger is correct also. The dished part on yours either held oil and a wick layed in it or a separate small metal oil lamp. Do a google search for "iron cruise lamp" or "iron betty lamp" to see the many variations of these.
