Burner Plates for Electric (coil) stoves?

Does anyone use these or have experience with them? I was thinking of getting them for my stove to provide more even heating when using my CI. Curious about user experiences, and any considerations, brands, etc. others might suggest.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Thanks much, in advance!

Just me. I think they are a waste of time and money. You need to get the burner hot then your burner plate, then your skillet. Cost you a lot more to cook / heat.

Put your pan in the oven and heat it up evenly. Take it out and cook on the largest burner that you have. :icon_thumbsup:

But if it's an electric stove, it will be an electric oven, with a larger coil to heat up, so I'm thinking that it just might even out in the end. More power to smaller burner might end up using same amount of A.C. as the larger one in the oven. Where's Alton Brown when you need him?

Thank you both. I have just noticed a concentration of heat in the middle when cooking things with my #10 (my max burner size is 8"). So I thought it might help prevent that center hot spot a bit by spreading the heat more evenly under the pan. But yea, I get the "double heating" point. And yes, I do have an electric oven, so it's almost a "6/half dozen" thing.

Maybe I can now make the argument for replacing the electric cooktop with gas. :icon_scratchchin: :chuckle:

Heat the larger pan on a lower heat setting. This will allow the heat to disperse evenly throughout the cast iron. You can also move the pan around a bit to help spread the heat out to the edges.

I like the idea of a gas stove better. :chuckle:

I will try that also though ... in the mean time. :)
