The local TSC went out of business last month. In doing so they started selling products at clearance prices. the first week-40% off. Week two-60% off. Week three-75% (by this time there wasn't much left)

I was there on day one of the 60% off and ended up purchasing a UNITED STATES STOVE CAST IRON LOGWOOD STOVE for $120 (tax included) They are priced at $299

Ironically, it is still in the crate so it's an easy one to store. I don't need or even want a log stove at this time. However, Sometime in the future, I am considering putting up a hunting cabin on our farm as my sister owns the house now and if I ever move out of the area, it would be much easier to just head to the cabin.

Most definitely made in China. If I could find an authentic cabin stove 1-not cracked, burned out or otherwise on its last season and 2-at the price I gave, I'd have jumped on it.

Fifteen years ago I purchased a new small 3' CI pot belly stove for the foyer, $160 made in China I think. Not here. Right size, right price. Too heavy! I have been pleasantly surprised with the quality and finish which is close to my 1880 US refurbished 4 hole stove.

Need? No. However, this ain’t the Keys. We do get below freezing often and down into the single digits at at times in December and January.

The stove is there for fun. In front of a deacon's bench and a mission love seat those who come in on a cold blustery evening head directly to the stove and grin. The front doors are on the classy side of the foyer and the stove is on the country side. It has also paid off when the furnace went out at 9:00 PM on a Saturday night.

New wood stove for $120? Nothing wrong with that.

When we get into a house, i'll be having wood stoves but they have to be antique.

My cabin I bought this year came with a wood stove in one of the sheds. How anyone can move it from there is beyond me. Took everything I had to move it an inch

Years ago I purchased a restored antique Glenwood parlor stove for a post and beam room in my home. I think I spent more time cutting and splitting fire wood that sitting around enjoying the heat from it. It liked wood.

I like my new stove, cast iron and soapstone with a catalytic combustor. I heat my home with only 3 cords of fire wood.

Rob, if you're thinking of using an antique CI wood stove I highly suggest that you DO NOT shop the new beautiful, ornate and efficient ones out there.

I'm not interested in the new really. Friends have an old late 1800's Charles Fawcett stove they are willing to give to me. But I really want a gas/wood combo in the kitchen :)

I doubt it. Many design/air flow factors involved. Like trying to turn a hit and miss engine into a two cycle. Some of the new CI stoves look like new old stock and are hard to beat on everything except price.

As always, buy the best and only cry once.
