Cast Iron Collection

Hi Collectors,

My father passed away in July and left us his entire cast iron collection. It's a fairly large collection. Anything from decoration pieces, banks, pots, pans, and even a beautiful cast iron and chrome wood burner.

I honestly don't know what to do with it all since I need to move my mother, who is ill, into my house. I don't want to just hire an auctioneer to come in because I know they may rob me on the value of these items. I planned to keep a few sentimental pieces and sell the rest. Questions for you:

* Is there a good place to sell these items?
* Is there a site or book that can tell me what things are worth?

Any help you can give me will be MUCH appreciated. Thanks so much!

Quite a bit of collectible cast iron cookware is traded on eBay. That may be your best source for current values, by doing searches on completed sold listings. There are collector guides which give values, but which are not necessarily recently updated. Depending on how many pieces you have, it may be daunting to try to sell them individually. You may want to consider listing them in small groups of like items on eBay. Another alternative might be, after you have established what you want for all of it, is to offer it on a regional craigslist posting. If you have the ability to lay them out in groups and photograph them (outside in good light, showing the entire bottoms of the pieces), we can get you started on a rough idea of values. The group here is interested primarily in cookware, so the other odd items we may not be much help with.

Thanks so much for the super quick response Doug! I have a lot of items so I'll group them like you mentioned. It still might take me weeks to sell them all. I'd rather sell them then move them so I'd better get busy. Thanks again!
