Cast Iron Hot Plate

Not exactly sure what these are called and I can't find the Patt # 186 in my Griswold book......

It is a Model 202 - 2 burner camp stove with a brass plate.

Anyone that can tell me more information, value, circa, how to clean it up, maintain the finish - my husband wants to actually use it at our cabin.

P/N 186 is not listed in the blue book, however, p/ns 185 and 187 are, as a No. 201 1-burner and a No. 203 3-burner gas hot plate, respectively. It would follow, then, that a p/n 186 would be a No. 202 2-burner. The BB also shows a model 2020 "elevated hot plate" (pg.171), a 2-burner also, with a design and markings identical to yours, but with the addition of a tall stand. The authors place it ca.1930s and value it $175-200.

It almost appears to be in working condition as it sits. I don't think I would do anything too aggressive to the main casting for fear of damaging the nameplate. If the gas line and burners can be disassembled, they could be de-rusted and high-temp painted, but it would burn off again with use, eventually.

I think your hot plate looks good just the way it is. Were you to repaint it would not look like it did when new I don't think. A little rust on gas burners is normal. Maybe some cleanup with a rag and solvent or coat the whole thing with a light coat of solid crisco then wipe dry. I bet that would make it look pretty nice.
