My husband bought a Cast Iron skillet from a resale shop, he was told it was used in Civil War. Research, I did stated they were not used in Civil War, Pitted, has no 12 on handle, with a P in between the 12, also a seam on bottom with 3 raised spots, not flat. He paid 45.00 for it?

The "seam" is a gatemark, indicative of the casting technology seen used primarily on pieces made in the mid to late 19th century. The three raised spots, without a photo, are either nubby feet to help it set level on a hearth or stovetop, or they may be where longer legs have been sawed off. If the latter, which constitutes damage, $45 might be considered too much. Who made it is one of those unanswerable questions.

Thank you. He also bought some other pieces, I have not taken pictures, of, basically, he will research before he buys thank you very much, for info. He also bought a pan with the corn shape pieces in it and a pan with about, 7 round places, in it basically he learned a lesson, this guy has been selling him, a lot of items, that are not what he says they are. Research needed before we spend hard earned money, thank you very helpful.

Don't feel bad, cast iron knowledge is a mountain to climb. After a year and a half at it, I'm still only scratching the surface. Lots of knowledge in here.
