cast steel or aluminum?

we've switched over to cast cookware and have acquired a few pieces. This piece was my great aunts and not sure of the maker. From the research I have done, I believe it is a Chicago pan. not sure of the metal...although I guess I could use a magnet..lol
the bottom has 999A on it and I cannot find anything on that.

yes, I seen your article and it was very informative. any idea of the age of this pan? couldn't find anything with the 999A attached to it.

I have a #8 chromed CHF that I found near Richmond Va. while working out of town. Being bored staying in a hotel is the cause of my addiction ha!

so, now that I know this pan is not aluminum, from what I can gather it is a chrome piece. do these get seasoned like other cast ware?

In other words, no, you don't have to manually season nickel or chrome plated pieces or work to maintain a seasoning. The plating protects the iron from rust.

But through normal use some seasoning buildup is almost inevitable and doesn't hurt anything except appearance.

If it's only partially plated or there are places where the plating has worn through to the bare iron, though, those spots will require seasoning to protect from rust.

I LOVE that hammered griddle! :icon_thumbsup:
