Cleaning a Trivet

How do I clean this trivet (picture attached) Someone suggested I try Dawn's Power Dissolver, but I cannot find it anywhere.

Can I put the trivet in my lye bath? I have scrubbed with an SOS pad with no noticeable results.

207 is the p/n for an iron trivet. Or a magnet will tell you iron from aluminum. Iron can go in the lye bath; aluminum can't.

In the photo, it looks plated or tinned. The black you are trying to clean may be the bare iron where it's worn.
