Cleaning rust

Have an old 3 legged straight pot, very possibly Canadian made. It's been through the lye bath and came out clean. But there is fairly thick rust in spots on the inside.

Is 50/50 vinegar good enough? or can I soak the spots in straight vinegar? Is there something else that will work? Don't want to take any chances ruining this pot, even tho I probably won't use it.

Thanks.

You can spray on straight vinegar, wait 10 minutes or so, then scrub with S/S scrubber. Don't go off and leave it, though. Rinse thoroughly after scrubbing.

If the rust is thick, you may scrub only to find pitted metal. It won't have anything to do with the scrubbing or the straight vinegar. You can rinse and repeat as necessary to work off the rust.

Some pitting is a given on this one, hoping it's not too deep. The bottom has some pitting as well, but it is what it is. Just want to get it back to black and beautiful, not the painted mess I bought.
