Collector's tip: Monday is not always the best shopping day

I was in Cave Spring, GA yesterday and also in Mentone, AL. I was looking forward to hitting several antique shops in both places. Nope. They were all closed on Mondays! Ugh. And to make it worse, I could see this in the window of the shop I was most looking forward to checking out ...

Next time I call on customers in that area, I'll make sure to be there on a day other than Monday!

The Monday closing is pretty traditional with antiques and collectibles shops. When my hubby had a shop here, we were open Monday to Saturday, and people were quite annoyed that the shop was not open on Sunday, and there was little business on Mondays. C'est dommage! Hope you have better luck next time; that shop does look very interesting.

Looks like the kind of place where a SBL Griswold #8 priced at $60 might be sitting right next to a $18 possible Blacklock or an $20 #10 BSR Red Mountain. On the other hand they could be trying to sell that 1891 Original for $50. You never know until you check it out. My favorite kind of CI hunting.

Exactly! I saw a Wagner Krusty Korn pan today just like the one I pod $10 for a couple of weeks ago. They were asking $98. Haha!

$98?!?!?! Too funny. Cheapest Krusty Korn Kob pan I ever saw was in a consignment store for $3.20 ($4 price tag during a 20% off sale). Looked like it had hardly ever been used. Obviously I bought it.

Its not just Mondays. How about the 4:30-5:00 close time? I understand that the folks that run the shops want to go home too, but its retail. It doesn't give customers the chance to drop in after work.

Ty, you were right. I was in the area again today and went back by this shop. Most of the pans you see in the picture I took through the window are newer BSR, a couple three notch Lodges, a couple of Korean and Taiwanese, a Mexican tortilla maker .... and buried under it all ... on the bottom of the pile ... a #10 Griswold in excellent condition ...

Unfortunately, he wanted $150 for it and I had to pass. Too rich for my blood.
