color

I as soaking this in a lye bath and noticed this color. Is this alright to keep in bath or what have I done to this skillet.

Lye won't harm iron. What is the color you're referring to?

It seems to be the normal black color and half of it is almost a silver. Never seen that before and this has to be close to my 300th piece

Either vestiges of plating or just really clean iron.

Did you use any steel wool to clean the piece? Mine usually come out of the lye tank looking like yours, but after steel wool treatment, they are mostly silver. It is always amazing to me what a little steel wool will do to even out the color.

Thanks to everyone's input. I'm gonna' give mine another week or so. I have a pickers market this Sunday and was hoping to take that skillet with me was all. I have 20 others I'm taking, it's fine.
