Confused

I'm working on obtaining a DO like the one in this eBay link (but a whole lot cheaper!) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gri...566?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a8b3ccbf6 and upon looking up the p/n (2058) both the BB & RB say it's supposed to be a #8 Hinged Double Skillet Bottom, Hammered. What confuses me is this is clearly a DO and not a skillet. No pics in either book of this. Could this be a error in the books for the ID? This would be about a 1940's-1950's piece, right?

Also, might be able to get a #8 National w/stylized Wagner Ware logo in center for $10+shipping. As I recall, the Nationals are like the Griswold Victors as far as being thinner & lighter than the regular line. Is this correct? I have a Victor but not a National.

Thanks in advance.

Could be an error, or an example of one of the several duplications of p/ns on different Griswold pieces.

Like Victors, Nationals are shallower and slightly smaller compared to the same size skillets of their regular lines. I don't think they are necessarily any thinner/lighter castings than their regular counterparts of the same era. Here's a fully marked Victor #8 inside a Griswold LBL #8 for comparison:

Here are the pattern numbers I have for some of those Griswold hammered pieces.

2008 No.8 skillet
2028 No.8 deep skillet or chicken fryer
2040 No.8 hinged double skillet top, goes with 2028 bottom
2058 No.8 dutch oven
2098 No.8 hinge skillet, deep skillet, or dutch oven cover (same piece was used on all three pans and was made with or without the easy clean finish, the only hammered piece so coated with porcelain.)

The blue book looks to have a few errors.

Ahhh, gotcha. It's definitely the DO and not a double skillet. Would these be fair prices, $27+$28 shipping/handling for the DO and $10+$15 s&h skillet? Both need stripping of crud & light rust.

Those prices would be very! fair to you if the pans clean up well. Light rust should not be a problem. Watch for cracks or warps. Griswold's hammered ware is top quality, especially in black iron-oh, yes, check to see if the pieces are black, nickel or chrome plated. They did all three finishes on the hammered ware.

It's black iron. A little time in the tanks and they should be good. Unfortunately, I can't physically inspect it for cracks or warpage. I like the small dimpling of the Griswold hammered pieces, just like my Lodge 4 in 1 which I'm still looking for a top for.
