What would be the correct lid for a Favorite smiley 8 skillet? My CHF/Fav chicken fryer has a 9 inside the lid, I have a 10 skillet and a lid with a 10 inside it, I’ve seen 8 1/2 lids but never an 8, would the 8 1/2 lid be correct for an 8 skillet? Or is that for a chicken fryer too?

Hi Jeff,
I have one at home but am away so I can't get you a pic. The skillet lid looks a bit different than the chicken fryer lids and seem to be more scarce. Here is a link to what it should look like.

did Favorite make a #10 chicken fryer then? I just picked up a 10 skillet with lid not to long ago and that lid is styled like the rest of them i have seen. the chf/fav chiken fryer lid i have is marked 9, it looks like the 8 1/2 lid i found, and they both resemble the 10 lid i have as well.

the 8 1/2 lid and the 9 lid are the same size. either will fit a #8 chicken fryer (usually marked 8 1/2... although I think the CHF ones are marked as 8) or a #9 skillet.

it depends on your goal... if you just want a 'Favorite' lid that fits your 'Favorite' chicken fryer... then the 9 is the exact same size as the lid that is marked 8 1/2. If you want a matching set... with the chicken fryer/deep skillet marked 8 1/2 and the lid marked 8 1/2... then you'll need to find a lid marked 8 1/2.
I was in the same boat a while back... I had the chicken fryer and no lid... bought a set of 4 lids on ebay (because there was a #9 favorite lid, and early griswold #7 dutch oven lid, a BSR lid and an early lodge lid for $50.) so I had a lid that fit and would work... but "technically" wasn't the 'right' lid... then I was at an auction about a month later and I got two #9 Favorites... one was a smiley and the other was a block FPW deep skillet... it was one of those auctions where there was a bunch of pieces (about 50 or so) scattered around on a flat bed and they were auctioning for 'choice'... I got the two 9's for $25 each... then I got choice again at $20 and got two big logo #9 griswold handle griddles... then as people were moving stuff around I noticed a favorite lid... checked it and it was marked 8 1/2... I bid and got choice again at $17... and picked it up. did I 'need' it? no... did I feel like it was the 'right' lid for my chicken fryer... yeah. and I would have bought it for $17 anyway.
