Couple of nice "finds" today

I had a good day today, picking several estate sales for old stuff my daughter and I Like collecting and/or flipping to pay for our hobby. I filled the Jeep to the brim with a variety of neat old relics. I was also lucky enough to find a couple of real cast iron "gems" today. The Griswold LBL EPU #12 skillet is in excellent, flat condition. I've had a couple in the past, but never kept one for myself. This one is going to be a keeper if it cleans up as well as I expect it will. The second piece is a Griswold No. 140 Turk pan. I have to admit, I've never seen one in the wild before. Again, excellent shape- going to be a keeper. I would have been thrilled to find just one of these pieces, finding both in the same day was really special. To top it all off, I basically got them for a "song and a dance".

I have a #140. I have it hanging in my kitchen. I smile every time I look at it. Because it was $20.

Don't want to sound like I'm trying to one up you, but I got this at a steal for $5. The #12 skillet for $40. Like I said, basically got them for a "song and a dance". Best part was the sellers were extremely happy with the price. I actually spoke with them at length about my cast iron obsession, and helped them with some pricing on several other old items in the house. They were trying to keep their prices low in order to sale as much as they could to clean out the house. It was a parents house and they lived over an hour away, so they just wanted to clear stuff out quickly. I was happy to fill my Jeep, and didn't feel guilty about doing it. Win/win.

You filled your jeep? Awesome! Where I live, I'm lucky to find two pieces...at an antique shop--LOL!

Didn't fill the Jeep with cast iron. Only bought these 2 cast iron pieces, the rest was sleds, wash stand, crocks, wrought iron plant stands, milk cans, coal bucket, single tree, wrought iron candle holder, pottery, spice rack, enamel ware, primitive sifters and wood tool box, barn pulleys, ........ I think maybe I have a problem, lol.

Nice score Jody, I really like the Turks head pan. It's posts like this that inspire me to keep hunting.

You've posted your share of great finds that have inspired me also Bonnie. You know as well as I do, days like this are few-and-far-between. It's what fuels the obsession of the hunt.

Congrats., Jody! Sounds like you hit a mother lode there. I have a similar no. 12, and mostly use it for pizza--but it's not leaving the house unless desperation strikes. The Griswold gem pan is lovely--be like Doug; hang it up and smile when you see it!

Thanks Sharon. I just made a pizza in a #12 unmarked Wagner a couple nights ago. I normally use a #10 CHF because my wife and I like a little thicker crust. I think I will copy Doug's idea and hang the Turk pan to admire. I'll have to wait til spring though, since it's too cold here to have my etanks set up.

I have a #14 Martin that lucked up and spotted in a yard sale in the early 1990's. Crud, cat or dog hair, and years of neglect. I walked away with the skillet and an unmarked cast iron door post letter box for five dollars. Clean up almost like new, no wobble, cracks or damage. I use it to make my requested deep dish "heart stopper" double everything pizza a few times a year. Deals like that are few and far between.

Good for you, Bryan! Glad you found that gem--I found my best things at yard sales--someone else didn't need or appreciate it, but you did! Excellent!
