Cracked kettle, what to do?

I just pulled an old 7 or 8 quart kettle out of the e-tank and discovered a small crack on the bottom near one of the legs. Since it's useless as cookware I'll probably use it as a plant container, most likely for a small hot pepper plant I can winter over in the house. Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of rust inhibiting coating I can put on it's interior surface that won't leach into the peppers?

Seasoning?

A good quality SG black paint. If you plant right in the iron pot it will most likely rust a bit. Set the potted plant into the kettle.
