Cruso low base waffle iron

So found a Cruso hsb and Co low base waffle iron yesterday. All I've been able to find is that Griswold mfg. these. Rooster on front plate, no 8 on back plate, wire handles and Griswold on low base. Any collectible value? And how do I restore wire handles? Iron is decent shape, some rust, minimal crud so lye and vinegar should take care of that.

Just about any item produced by Griswold pre-1957 has some collectible value if in reasonably good condition or better. Coiled wire handles on waffle irons you pretty much have to take as you find them, treat them like plated pieces, and just clean them up best you can. Lye or vinegar treatments, properly applied, shouldn't harm them.

So do you know approximate age?

Hard to say without a dated catalog with an accurate illustration. The only one I have seen has a later style ball hinge (like the CLOWS), the later style coil handles (no eyebolt rings), 3/9 position stop tabs, and a cross pattern on the pans. Photos of yours?

Wow, that's a pretty cool looking iron...

Quite a bit different from the one I have seen. Different hinge, handle, and decoration. I'm thinking the Griswold base is not original, as it has a p/n, which would imply the paddles, had they been made by Griswold, should have p/ns as well. The photos also look like the irons do not sit centered in the base.

Thanks Doug. Actually found one on Ebay last night with high base and high dollar buy it now. Waffle plates look the same. Guess I'm going to have to keep looking for info and be happy with what I have ... Found some low base pix in Worth point in completed auctions but a couple of different base handles. One has C8 in the handle as does another one I found. Also several high bases seen there. Included the pix of the c8 handle I saw on a couple other sites.
