Detroit cast iron

This is a curiosity to me. I saw this piece last weekend. It's a nickel piece that's says Detroit - USA, but has no brand. I don't know if it's old or not...well, I don't know anything about it at all, and I'm wondering if anyone else does. I'm really busy this week and won't have time for research, so I figured I'd be lazy and ask :)

At the asking price, I'm not interested (unless its surprisingly valuable or something). I just like to learn about new things.
 
It did look to be in pretty good condition. I didn't go over it thoroughly because I wasn't buying, but I didn't see any issues with it that would cause concern... Just needed to be cleaned up.
 
i have something in my pile that says Detroit on it haven't gotn to cleaning it yet in a bit ill have to look and see what it says.
 
I have a skillet as well and I believe I read somewhere that they are nickel and chrome, but forget which surface has which finish. I'm away from home for a while and so can't look at mine.
