If a web search for the answer to your cast iron cookware question has brought you directly to this forum, the information you seek may be covered in one of the many reference topics featured on the main website.
How do you handle evaporation in your e-tank and lye tank? Is it just water that evaporates, or do you need to add sodium carbonate or lye when you add more water to the tanks?
Well I added 10 to 15 gallons to both the E-tank any lye tank yesterday afternoon. I must admit it was pretty disgusting. The E-tank clouded up instantly, but I knew it would all settle by morning. The lye tank was something else. It foamed terribly. To my surprise all the foam was gone in the morning. I added some cast iron to both and they are still working well!
I suppose one day I will get tired of it and just have to start over fresh. But I am curious at how long these tanks will continue working with all the crud inside of them.
