e-tanking a Wagner waffle iron grid

I am trying to remove the black grit surrounding the waffle iron blocks and inside the concave circular depressions. It is black and sandy looking.
I tried lye twice and e-tanked it with a graphite anode for 6 hrs and scrubbed it with a nylon scrub pad + tooth bush. I have two graphite plates in the North & South position with the waffle half iron in the middle. The ATX PC power supply produces 28 amps @12 volts.

It is still not shiny or pristine yet. Should I e-tank it anymore more? Or it is just futile for any more improvements. I will post pics tonite.

How long did you leave it in the lye? Are you using pure lye? I did my Griswold waffle iron last week and they came out almost like brand new after a 4 day soak.
