The electrolytic process won't affect anything that doesn't have oxygen in it, so, once the rust is gone and you're down to just good iron, the action stops.
I've left pieces in there for a week when I was busy and didn't have time to clean and season...might be a small waste of electricity, but no harm was done to the iron.
