ERIE No. 9 Scotch Bowl

I saw a pre-Griswold ERIE scotch bowl at a vintage store yesterday. Marked 10 '91 as we'll. pretty nice shape overall. I was interested, but the price was steep ($100). Is that high? Low? I really do not know the value. No lid or anything, but did have the wire bail.

Thoughts?

There are a few sizes of the scotch bowls, but the BB places them all in the $50-75 range, regardless of which Griswold markings. "Pre-Griswold" is a term you see on a lot of eBay auctions of Erie pieces, but there is really no such thing, they're just Griswold items that don't have the word Griswold on them. Also, scotch bowls didn't typically have lids, as they were designed for cooking foods requiring constant stirring.

I found when selling my Griswold and Wagner pots and bowls the demand was low except for, maybe, the No.6 sizes. $100 seems to be on the high side but condition is all important.

I agree with Doug that any "pre-Griswold" iron cookware would be pieces that Griswold did not make and that were made before Griswold started to make iron cookware c.1879, probably with a waffle iron (which was marked Selden & Griswold) and tea kettle, also marked Selden & Griswold. "pre-Griswold" is a useless and incorrect term.
