Excelsior Co.

A small, unmarked griddle(?) followed me home yesterday. Last recourse for identifying the maker by handle style was e-bay ...looks to be made by the Excelsior Mfg. Co. Would appreciate any info. from those familiar with the company. Believe it is a #8 (waiting for it to clear the crud bath) with a very distinct gate mark.
Thanx in advance-

Thank you for the response; I'm not very savvy as to posting pics etc. As stated found a similiar griddle on the Bay- a#7 as opposed to the #8 I purchased...now I'm interested in any info that can be provided pertaining to the. Excelsior Co. just because I'm geeky that way.

Hi, Perry. I took a quick look at the Foundry database on this site, and Excelsior Mfg. Co. -- that specific mark -- seems to have been G.F. Filley, between 1865 and 1895. The gate marked pieces are generally 19th century, in my experience. If so, you have a "real" antique. Anyone else want to comment on this? (Please note, I've been wrong before...) Anyway, Perry, the foundry info. here is very helpful, so you might want to take a look there.

Thanks Sharon, I viewed the foundry data base as well. Having many collecting interests, I've learned that asking for info based on region (Midwest in my case)
often helps when determining lesser known mfg./companies

Still learning-
Perry
