Only griddle i see pictured in the book is one with loop handles on the end with open holes, havnt seen any with like this with the center brace on the end handles. also i would have though the surface would be much smoother on such an old piece, does this piece add up to be legit?

Long griddles were not polish ground. Only the fineness of the mold sand and prep, and possibly some tumbling, determined how smooth (or not) they were.

I have an unmarked one that looks like this one except it has a number 7 in the middle turned sideways and a S on the right of the 7 about 2-1/2". Did other companies use this same style? I love mine for the stovetop, it sits across two burners and I can do three large pancakes at the time. The modern reversible ones don't get as hot in the middle, I believe the ridges that put the grill marks don't allow the gas or heat to flow uniform under them and this one also has a skirt on the outer edge to aid with the gas and heat retention. Just my observation/speculation.
