Flea Market find Hammered finish and gate mark

I found these at a flea market. $18 for both

#8 skillet with hammered exterior. it looks cool

10" griddle with a gate mark. has a few chips in the rim










 
This is a far is it will go in lye. im going to go at the carbon with a dremel wire brush

I'd be concerned you will make some marks in the iron you can't take back.

Doug is very correct.

Took a wire wheel to a near perfect Wagner National one time, cleaned off small spots that wouldn't come off - never again. Ended up with high spots in the skillet after seasoning, there is no way to fix it.

But of course it's your skillet.
 
i have a variable speed Dremel with a flexible attachment. Also, the wire wheel is about a half inch in diameter and the same depth and soft. I believe ill be ok. We'll see

Even that can leave visible marks on the metal. Been there, done that. Same tool, same attachment.
