If a web search for the answer to your cast iron cookware question has brought you directly to this forum, the information you seek may be covered in one of the many reference topics featured on the main website.
Im no expert but my opinion is that its real. Lines are clean and crisp. That wouldve had a lid for it and it wouldve cooked stews or beans. Really just about anything wouldve been cooked in it.
I'm no expert but it looks like the real deal. Also in my opinion if someone were to expend enough time effort and $$$ to make a reproduction they would focus on something that is sought after where they can make $$$. That pot would have been used in a fireplace either suspended by the bail or sitting with coals around or under it. I'm not sure if it had a cast iron lid, regular or camp oven style or a tin lid. Someone with more knowledge will come along and enlighten us both I'm sure. I have one like that one and found a newer cast iron camp oven lid that happened to fit it. A marriage for sure. I haven't had time to go camping but am looking forward to breaking it out.
I'm somewhat hesitant to say for sure but your pot looks a whole lot like a Martin Stove and Range piece if I were comparing just the bail attachment only. If you look at our CIC resource page and go to foundries it give some interesting data on MS & R when you click on the icon. The gate mark is throwing me off a bit but I suppose it continued on for some time after the turn of the century.
I also found a similar pot on eBay that appears to be exactly as yours except there's no gate mark on the bottom. I don't like showing links to eBay because it just promotes their sales in my feeling but you can easily find it if you just type in MS&R cast iron. The dim, given are 9" H X 9 1/2" W and it has three legs same as yours and it too is a #7.
Good luck with an I.D. in your search.
