This auction was listed as having 20 pieces of griswold... and other cast iron... they had a medium sized trailer with cast iron scattered around the back half, not organized at all... and when they started the bidding it was for 'choice'... the first guy went up to about $75 and took two griswold dutch ovens (a #9 and #8... the #9 was a nice slant erie bottom but with a 'newer' fully marked tite-top baster lid... the #8 was a matched set, but the bottom had some pitting, no trivets for either)... the next bid for choice went to $35 and some guy took a marked stylized logo Wagner #12... the next bid for choice went to $25 (me) and I got a smooth bottom big block #4 and the two favorite piqua 9's, one smiley and one a deep skillet with the older block logo. Then I think I got choice again at $22 and took the two griswold #9 handled griddles and the really nice big block smooth bottom 8... those were the main ones that I wanted so I let others go... the bidding stayed around the $20 range for several selections with people picking the pieces they wanted... there were a couple of chicken fryers and some other bsr and wagner pans... then I noticed a favorite lid still in the pile and got choice again at $17 and snagged it (it's marked 8 1/2, like the chicken fryer... I have a #9 lid, but somehow the one marked 8/12 seems more authentic and since I now have a #9 favorite skillet... then I also have a lid for it)... then finally the choice big was down to about $12... so I took the small logo, early handle #6 and the heat ring slant erie #8 (it looks rougher than what it turned out... some pitting on the bottom... and a bit of a downward bow, but it isn't below the heat ring depth so it still sits flat)... started cleaning them up yesterday... the griddles are cleaning up really well... can't wait to see the favorites clean.
