Gotta Love Antique Dealers

I stopped by a shop today and a booth had an older #16 Lodge Dutch Oven base with an older #14 Lodge Skillet lid on it for $240.

The dealer was in his booth, so I asked him if he was willing to sell the lid separately since it did not actually go with that dutch oven. He insisted that they were a matched set and would only sell them together. I thanked him for his time and moved on.

He probably would have wanted too much for the lid anyway.

Don't get me started on dealers... Cast iron comes up in auction, they have no idea what they are bidding on - but it's somehow worth it's weight in gold.

Most here don't care what they are selling, they just want the money. And that bloody fake toy wagner waffle iron is still in the glass cabinet for $150. Told them a few times that it's fake, shrug of the shoulders.

I agree with you all. I've seen two sellers on eBay trying to sell bad stuff and tried to tell one but he insisted that his item wasn't broken. The first one though is this skillet:

Way cracked and he does mention it when he relisted it. The second one is a handled griddle that the handle is broken off of and he's the one I tried to warn:

Wow, it even sold. I feel sorry for whoever bought it.

I just don't get it. Another booth at the same place had a bunch of iron on the wall that was waayyyy overpriced. One example was a Griswold ash tray for $90.

I realize that they have to find this stuff and pay rent for their booth, but if you don't sell anything because of your prices, you have a very expensive storage/display area.

I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for their services, but when you blow away ebay pricing, I'm moving on.

Sorry for the rant. I feel better now. :-D
