Griswold #11 Large Logo Skillet - Chrome

This afternoon, my wife is picking up a piece we saw this weekend at an antique mall. It did not have a price listed, so we had to wait for the store to contact the seller and get back to us.

The chrome looks to be in really good condition, no obvious areas of missing chrome, won't be 100% sure until cleaned, but it looks like there is just a little bit of oil cooked/burnt onto the sides.

Saw this piece a few months ago and it was over $100.00.

Seller let it go for $50.00.

Reasonable deal????? Overpaid????? Jackpot?????

Will post pictures when I have them.

Sounds like a great deal. I hope you post a picture of it before and after. The lye soak does wonders for the chrome.

Don't have a lye bath set up, and lye is hard to come by in California (environmentalcases want to control every aspect of our lives), so I am going to do the Trash Bag and EasyOff method. Pretty much the same as lye.

Will be taking before pictures tonight.

Probably next week for the after.

Where in CA? I buy lye (ROOTO brand) at the local ACE hardware for $4.49 / lb. It is sold as a "household drain opener". Perhaps you aren't looking hard enough.

You can also get it on Amazon (singles and case of 12).

May be an LA County thing.

Shawn, Ace is the only place I can find it. Ace is the place.

Yes it is. Even though I can get it cheaper on Amazon, I prefer to support the local merchants. I live in a small town (~5K people) and think that is the responsible thing to do. Just my $0.02 :chuckle:

RLmuse, the trash bag method will give you good results. It just starts to get expensive if you get hooked on the hobby like I am. After buying 6 cans of HD oven cleaner I gave in to lye.

Thanks Jeffery. That's a good price, even including shipping, for food grade lye. I guess I'll have to start making bagels again. :glutton: Real bagels need to be boiled in lye water to come out right, baking soda just doesn't cut it. And of course, I'll have to try German pretzels, as they want it too.

Here are the before pictures.

It is currently covered in oven cleaner in a garbage bag on my patio. Should be in the 90s this afternoon, so the heat will help speed the cleaning process.
