I have a Griswold skillet. The layout on the back of the skillet is:
8
GRISWOLD slanted
ERIE
704
E
Circle is 3.25 inches, large logo. No information found in RB or BB specific to 704 E. Would anyone have information about date of manufacture for this skillet?
See: http://www.castironcollector.com/numbers.php. Scroll down to section subtitled "Numbers With Letters". Dating can only be narrowed to the range of years given for the slant logo and the "ERIE" designation (as opposed to ERIE, PA, U.S.A. designation in the same spot).
It was still in the oven when I sent first question but here are some pictures.
Lets see if I have improved my collectors language.
Griswold Erie number 8 pattern 704.
Inset heat ring, large slant logo. Estimated date of manufacture 1906-1912.
How does that sound? One of these days I will get it right.
As you can see the handle underside is very uniquely shaped. I have viewed
skillets that match in every way except for having a different style handle.
Do you think 1906-1912 would be a somewhat correct time span for the manufacture date?
Thanks.
Yes, that is a generally accepted timeframe for this TM with heat ring. The handle design is likely the result of either 6th series ERIE patterns being re-purposed or perhaps the same pattern makers still working for Griswold.
