Griswold Dampers

P1040457.JPGP1040456.JPGI have a couple of Griswold Stove Dampers. Both of them are 6 inch dampers. I think the one is pretty common, but I am wondering about the other one. It has a Patent Date of April 20, 1880 and another date of June 18, 1889. I have cleaned both of the dampers but the one has some pitting. Can anyone tell give me information about the American Erie PA? Is it rare? Value?

You should add this to your collection!!! Only $999 or $167 a month for 6 months...

When I think of all the great pieces I could buy for $1000 + $10.55 shipping. Or a common damper.. Hmmm.... Hmmmm :crackhead:

I know the dampers have little to no value - it is just that I have never seen one like this. Someone suggested that maybe this is an old Griswold that someone altered in someway?

I think it is prior to 1915 and it shows its age with the pitting.

Too funny - the link to the ebay listing is located about 10 miles from me. Maybe I should see if they would like to purchase from me so they can resell on ebay.

It's a little hard to see in the pictures but my guess is that it was pre-1910. That handle / lever, I believe, was added. Looks like they removed the OEM wood handle, and replaced with what is on there. Maybe an attempt to be able to control or hold the position of the damper?

I am no expert, just thinking out loud on some items that I have seen. :)

Hope you didn't take my comment as a put-down on picking up dampers. I actually think they're pretty neat, I just never see them when I'm out hunting.

My comment about common etc. was for the ebay listing for $999.

As I suspected the 999$ damper was a typo by the seller. I checked the seller rating and they have a fine track record. The price has now been changed to $9.99.
