Griswold Safety Bucket

My wife bought a Griswold Safety Bucket, but no lid. It is a number 9 with a large slant logo and the word "SAFETY" on the bottom. We were told that the lids for these are not cast iron. It appears based on the rim of the bucket that the lid would twist and lock on almost like a pressure cooker lid. The bucket has 2 handles. One is a typical bucket handle that swings over the top; the other is on the side of the bucket, which combined the the other handle would let you tip the bucket and pour out the contents. Both metal handles have wooden grips, which would make me think the bucket was not intended to be held over a fire like a bean pot. My question: What was the intended purpose of the bucket and are these rare?
