Yes that notch is supposed to be there. Certain Griswold waffle paddles have a rib on them that fit into the notch. You can see the rib on the waffle iron in the middle of this picture.

To be certain that base was made for such a set of paddles, the p/n on it would need to be known. There may be a possibility someone filed the notch to make the base work with paddles for which it was not designed.

Thanks Jeff, I never noticed the rib until you pointed it out, that's what I have are 151 paddles and am looking for a base to fit, thanks for the info

154, so according to the chart it works with the 151 paddles
