Hammered

I wish you had asked about that one first. That stuff is what collectors refer to as "hammered ugly unknown cast iron". Even though from the same approximate time period when hammered CI was popular, it's not from one of the known makers, and unfortunately, even when cleaned up, isn't going to look anything like the other photo.

It might be a little heavy, ugly, and crude, but you should have a fine and interesting chicken fryer to play with. The price seems on point, and you can always toss them back on ebay once they are cleaned up and with real description if you don't like them....
Hope they arrive intact and undamaged!

I hope so also Benjamin, I sent the seller a note about packaging. If they clean up nice I am sure I can make my money back but there is always the chance that there are cracks hiding under that crud. It's always a gamble when you can't hold them in your hands and inspect them before you buy.

Doug, I just read your post. :( I guess I will have more CI to send to the Island of Misfit Toys.

The Prescott 4th of July rodeo days on Whiskey Row is just around the corner maybe I can sell them to someone who is hammered. :wine:

Whenever you run across what looks like a cruddy 1-notch Lodge, look at it carefully to see if it might be hammered underneath. Those are some nice hammered pieces when restored.

I sold my hammered CHF lid on ebay last week and did pretty well. It was sure a lot prettier than this one.

Doug, is the pretty one in the picture a Lodge or a CHF?

Jeffrey, did you buy one too? That one sure looks a lot cleaner than mine. It's not nearly as dark and shiny as your eye candy normally is.
