How Do You Dispose of Extras? My Strategy.

I have just started really looking for CI seriously in the last few months and now I'm starting to get some duplicates of sizes I don't need for personal use. I categorize myself as a user first and collector second but I do enjoy restoring crusty iron. My strategy is to go in with a friend who has a booth at a local antique mall and place some skillets there at good prices. No, I don't plan on making a lot of money on this, but it would be nice to make enough on sales to pay for future purchases and allow me to keep the best pieces I find and sell the rest. Any advice would be appreciated!

That is a great idea. I usually just give pieces away to people that I know will use and appreciate CI. I've given away about 10-12 pieces ranging from #3 skillet to a Wagner waffle iron with base. I even have 4 pieces for my son when he moves into an apartment.

If I had a way to sell pieces like you are, I probably would sell a few. I'm at about 50 pieces, and I'm a user before a collector just as you are. I guess I'm collecting more as of late lol.

I'm trying to hold a few back to give to kids when they move out too. Not thinking about anything really old or great for that-Lodges and BSRs should fill that role nicely.

I'm not giving them any thing of real value until I see that they know how to care for and appreciate the iron. It is primarily newer Lodge and BS&R along with an unmarked Wagner.

I have probably 100 extra pieces,I separate them by brand and start making sets, from the most common sizes,3,5,6,7,8,10,a Dutch oven,a griddle, and a chicken fryer, and I'm going to post them locally on line,to make some extra money for cleaning,I won't season them after cleaning only apply a crisco coat and let the buyer season the skillets I think is going to be 30% profit and still cheaper than new lodge,I hope to sell them fast, here on this side of the country, cast iron is cheap and people won't pay more than 75% compared with new lodge
