How much are these Griswold #10 worth

I'm 24 hours into working on purchasing my first CI and hopefully have a decent collection in the future. I spent the day at thrift and antique stores and they all seem rather expensive in my area.

Just want some thoughts on what I should offer the seller on these items.

Okay, I'll jump in here. First, what is expensive for your area? Without a reference to your physical location, that's hard to gauge. Second, do you really want these pieces, and can you afford them? Overall quality/condition of the items, plus what you need them for must also be assessed. As for what you should offer, price-wise, I'll repeat what I've said here before: Antiques and collectibles are worth what someone will pay for them! Hope some one else on the forum will weigh in on this question--for those of us with rather small fortunes to spend on our "hobby" you've just asked the big one. Good luck on your hunting and collecting!

Unless familiar with Griswold p/n 1100, the casual viewer can't tell from the photos what the items are you're asking about. 1100 is the p/n for a skillet cover, so can we assume the pan is also a skillet? The photos which help the best are those which show the entire piece, not just parts, and are large enough to get some sense of condition. The first question would be is there any damage, e.g. warping, cracking, pitting? The second would be what are they asking?

Sharen: My physical location is the state of KC, MO. I'm one of the "us with rather small fortunes to spend on our hobby". I'm not looking to overpay just because my wallet allows me to :-) . I want to get educated on the pieces in order to offer a reasonable price. These 2 pieces are being offered for $185.

Doug: The items are a #10 skillet over and skillet. No pitting on the top or bottom of the skillet. Next time I go hunting, I'll take additionals pictures.

There are some pros and cons.

Pros: It's Griswold, the lid matches TM-wise, lids are often more valuable than the skillets they fit, especially a high dome lid. And it's a #10. If the skillet has the early handle, I'd consider that a plus.

Cons: Not really cons, but things that make it somewhat less desirable collecting-wise. It's a small block logo set rather than large block. The lid is smooth top as opposed to full writing top.

Assuming no defect or damage, I wouldn't call the $185 out of line. If it was something I wanted, and it had no issues, I'd be comfortable at $150, less if I could get it, of course. I personally don't think one should base CI value on regional pricing trends.

Doug, regional pricing trends affect value and cost for things like shrimp cocktails to houses and apartments, as well as a whole lot in-between. Why not cast iron?

I don't really see collectible CI as comparable to an apartment in NYC or eating jumbo gulf shrimp in the middle of Iowa. I get supply and demand. I get that prices are higher on things in general in areas where the standard/cost of living is higher. But it's not like you are forced to buy CI only from sellers located where you happen to live (or anywhere else prevailing pricing seems unduly high). I'd estimate fully 75% of my collection came from nowhere near here.

Here in N. Georgia, in the wild - not an antique shop - an unmarked (BSR or Lodge) #10 skillet and lid can be had for under $50. A Griswold logo adds $20 to the skillet and $10 to the lid per dealers. From what I hear it isn’t the same in the mid-West or West.

Here in the Detroit suburbs there are not a lot of vintage CI pieces for sale for a decent price. When a nice piece, and not necessarily clean, goes on Craig's list or a garage sale it goes for $$ and pretty fast. I'm not saying if you hit a lot of estate or garage sales you won't find vintage CI for a few dollars, but that is the exception around here, not the rule. At least that is my experience. And Doug you are correct, if you are traveling and stop in at a lot of flea markets and other venues you can find deals. Just ask my wife. I will pack CI in her and my bags. It always fun to watch TSA screening our bags!

Another thought (or 2): cities are high dollar areas in all respects; that set of lid and skillet are not too common; and, last but not least: how much do you want, and need, this nice Griswold set? Let us know how this one shakes out, please, J.

I'm new to CI collecting and looking for medium to high desirable pieces. My first purchase last week was a Griswold slant logo #8 ERIE(no quotes/non EPU). Still trying to research it's date.

Reading alot of material and trying to absorb as much information as possible.
