How to clean chromed pieces

I have several chromed pieces of Griswold.....what is the best way to clean these? Can they go in the lye?
 
Lye is fine, will not hurt plating. I have even used S/S wire brush and S/S scrubber gently on bottoms of Griswold Du-Chro and Wagner nickel without a problem. Or steel wool.
