ID 12" Skillet

Here it is. Got it from a thrift store never used, $24. May not be a great deal but it's a nice never used pan, so bought it. Has a spun finish in the bottom and the original protective wax. Note the wax accumulation on the bottom of the pan outside edges. No rust! Just need to season it. With the 3 piece heat ring assuming it's maybe a Lodge made for a retailer? Small helper tab with the mark you see seems to indicate an older pan, say 70s or 80s? Nice casting so newer I'm thinking (cleaner sand and metal). Could this be a Woolworths? So how old is it and brand?

One other thing, it's a pretty heavy pan...I've got some thinner vintage cast iron, Wagner, a 10" Lodge Skillet from the early 50s...this is a beast.

A mid-1960s Lodge, and in remarkably unused condition. Would have been sold through all Lodge normal retail channels. Heavy because it was made well into the era of automated molding.

Thanks, great info. Nice. It's never been used. I've just not seen that kind of finish on the inside...and then it was kept in a dry spot and never rusted as the spun finish kicked off the protective wax. I can imagine it was stuck away in Grandma's cabinets or a closet shelf and forgotten, then when Grandma moved they had to clean out the house and there it was. No one had a clue or it might have never ended up in a thrift store.

I consult with cast iron molders and this is a really nicely cast pan. Great sand control and metal cleanliness to get that kind of finish. Just curious, what does the "S" mean on the bottom of the helper tab?

BTW, I've been to this website several times to help ID some cast iron and it's a great site. Also sent it to some fellow cooks. My compliments on a nice site and great info.
