Hello everyone! I'm Rich, new to this wonderful forum. I live in NE Pa. USA and have been an amateur collector of cast iron cookware for years.

Can someone help me date this cast iron pot? Large pot: Measures 12" across top. Continuous Heat ring. On bottom: S M Co Pitts PA. Tipping flange has a raised #12. Inside white staining and heavy pitting.

Photos posted. 3 photo limit? I'd like to post more.

Found this info online:
Antique 19th century S M Co. PITTS PA skillet believed to be the Standard Sanitary Mfg. Co. formed in 1875 as the successor to Hartje, Wiley & Co. in Pittsburg. Standard Sanitary Mfg. Co. was a pioneer in making cast iron bathtubs and evolved to be a major maker of "Standard" bathroom fixtures.

Thanks!

Thanks Doug, Steven. Super happy to finally be apart of this community. I just finished cleaning (electrolysis) my entire collection, about 17 pieces. I think I have a few interesting items. Anyway, more photos of the SM Co Pitts Pa #12.

Is that a gate mark in the center?
Is the white stain remnants of porcelain coating?

The shape tells me kettle, not pot or DO. The bottom tells me after 1880 when CI stoves became common. The forged bail says late 1800’s or early 1900’s. Gate mark tells me I’d settle for circa 1890 until somebody proved me wrong. A SWAG at the white says oil based paint. A knife would tell followed by paint remover.
