I realize that it's difficult, if not impossible, to identify many of these unmarked pieces with a gate mark, but I thought I'd give it a try.
I picked this up for almost nothing during a larger purchase and decided to try to clean it up. It's has an incredibly smooth cooking surface and a lack of any discernible milling marks; it also has an outside heat ring (which makes me think this is pre-1900s) and is incredibly lightweight.
I normally season with Crisco, but I decided to exclusively use flaxseed oil on this, just as a test. So far, with 5 rounds of seasoning, the surface appears to be hard and slick, with a nice dark gray, almost black patina. Can't wait to actually cook in this!
Any thoughts on dating this or possibly identifying the manufacturer?
