Identity help please :)

I have a small fry pan with a logo that I do not see here on the site, I probably just missed seeing it. I don't have a photo of it at this time. The logo on the bottom of the pan is cast in (below the surface). It is, "FAVORITE" on one line and "WARE" on one line beneath it. The logo is at the 12 O'clock position from the handle, centered. The word "FAVORITE" is in a slight upward arc. There is no "PIQUA" in the logo. At the 6 O'clock position cast in (below the surface) is a semi-obscured character, the bottom half is the obscured part, looks like it could be a; '3', '?', or a '2'. Any help in identifying it's authenticity, location, and date of manufacture would be greatly appreciated! Thanks from this newbie, David

There exist some skillets marked as you describe, but do not appear to connected to Favorite Piqua. The word Favorite is in a plain block lettering and there is sometimes "C&C" between the Favorite and the Ware. These oddballs also usually have a number, bearing no relation to the size, in a horizontal diamond below the Ware and above the size number at 6 o'clock. The casting on these is usually not up to typical Favorite Piqua quality, and the heat ring design is not typical Favorite Piqua. It would appear they were made by James Smart Mfg. in Brockville, ON, Canada, who bought The Chown & Cunningham Co. and then marketed the hollow ware as "The Favorite Line".

Then there are also seen some skillets bearing the familiar Favorite Piqua "smiley" logo, but with the word Piqua omitted. Where they fall in Favorite Piqua's timeline is uncertain.

After CHF acquired Favorite's patterns, they removed the smiley and changed the word "Piqua" to "Cook".

Thanks for the reply and the photo! The one I have is definitely different from your photo. I will get a photo of it, that I hope, will help a lot.
Thanks David O

Hi Doug D.,
I have a photo of it finally! Now, how to post it?

Looks like you just did. My guess, looking at yours closely, is that this might be their first version of a stylized logo, and the Piqua was added and the styling of the lettering embellished later. Either that, or it could be what CHF changed it to after they acquired the patterns. Since there doesn't seem to be any indication of the "smiley" being removed, I'll go with the former, since we know there are "Favorite Piqua Ware" stylized logo pieces without the smiley.

Why is it called "hollow ware"?

The term applied to metal ware that served as containers or receptacles, differentiating it from dishware or flatware.
