I am an older fellow who picks up CI when I find a piece in decent shape. My primary objective in collecting is to use them in everyday cooking, which is my passion. I have small Tiwan skillets for 2 and 4 eggs, a Favorite Piqua Ware #8D (my main skillet), a Crofton Dutch oven, a Crofton Chicken fryer, an Oval ribbed gridle from an unknown maker, and a Wok. Each of these is used regularly and imparts that unique flavor from cast iron.
My Favorite Piqua Ware skillet is as smooth as glass on the cooking surface, has some carbon on the outside wall, but the bottom is clean. Several years ago, my wife dropped my Wagner 10-inch skillet on the floor after washing it, and it fractured. She has since been banned from handling MY cast iron, LOL.
