Many of those new to CI collecting, having learned that there are fakes around, infer that every piece should be suspected of being a counterfeit. Typically, the quality of the fakes is obviously poor enough to make them immediately identifiable as one. If you have a photo, it would be the fastest and easiest way to confirm or dismiss your concern. I don't ever recall seeing an Erie fake, however, that didn't have a bottom gate mark or some really subpar casting. And those seen with such defects usually weren't produced to be counterfeits as much as they were just someone trying to make some skillets and using another skillet as the actual working pattern.
