Just Cooking in the CI is Best Seasoning

There are many people including my Grandmother, Mother, Sisters, Aunts, Cousins, that have never heard of seasoning a cast iron pan in the oven. They cleaned the pan, rubbed it down originally with lard or bacon grease, probably crisco later, and just started using them.
 
The manual method we apply is more about making the pan rust resistant and to look "cooked in" when we don't intend to use it. The real seasoning starts when we do.
