My first post of many.

Lost my moms heirloom skillets. I miss that glass like surface her stuff had.
Have been living with my loss. I discovered eBay. Bought an unknown brand for like 22 bucks shipped. Frankly I'm ecstatic, may have unleashed a beast though.

Need advice. User not collector, but I appreciate quality.

Griswold,Wagner, 3 notch Lodge, and BSR

First two are premium money.

Thoughts??

I'm primarily a CI user as well. I think some of the best user skillets are unmarked store brands of Griswold or Wagner. I really like Griswolds Iron Mountain line. They are easy to ID and fairly common at flea markets and the like. Not very expensive either. Everything will be severely overpriced on eBay though, including these.

Put in a little time looking around on weekends. It will be well worth it.

This. Get out and get some exercise (walking) and look.

Never used an Iron Mountain, but where I am there is some older Lodge I've seen. They are pretty easy to identify with the notches (single or triple) in the heat ring. If you can find a good deal, older gatemarked pieces are good. My limited experience has been that any name on the pan like Lodge, Griswold, Wagner, etc. makes it automatically more valuable to the seller in a flea market.

Good luck!

Old Lodge and BSR are easy to find at flea markets and make great users. Iron Mountain are a little harder to find around here but are great users. Small logo Griswolds are cheaper than the older ones and work nicely. My wife's everyday users are LB Griswold. I try to mix it up and give them all a chance on the burner. Two of my favorites right now are a 3rd series Erie #8 and a Favorite Piqua #8 shallow skillet.
